The Illuminated Ones

Do you need lights? Magnalight.com has almost every possible light designed and thought of by man. Boat lights, flash lights, LED lights, hunting lights, and spotlights are all available through their website. In fact, they even have a few lights that I hadn’t even thought of.
If we didn’t have artificial light, we would have trouble seeing in the dark. Take some time to browse this website to see how far Thomas Edison’s brilliant invention has come in the last 100 years. Remember, 100 years is a relatively short time when you consider the history of man on the planet. Your not so distant ancestors used moonlight and firelight to see in the dark, and I am sure they would be amazed and thrilled if they could see the lights for sale at Magnalight.com. It is a bit of a shame (but it is to be expected) that we now take such amazing devices for granted.
If I were going to buy a light from Magnalight.com just for fun, I would buy a huge spotlight and put a cardboard cutout of a bat in the center of it, and then shine it on the clouds just to see if a real bat-signal is feasible.

Back to Work

I haven't had much time to update this blog recently. Ten years ago, I started a career in the car business. Three years ago, I sold what I thought would be my last car as I transferred to a segment of the dealership that didn't involve the actual selling of automobiles. Two years ago that department was closed and I was out of work. One week ago I re-entered the workforce as a car salesman, in the branch of Internet sales.

Things have really changed since I last sold cars. Banks don't buy deals as much as they used to, and dealerships have drastically reduced inventory. Many of the ultra cheap used cars have been sold for the metal or turned in on the cash for clunkers program, where they will be crushed and sold for scrap.

I believe that by maintaining a high level of professionalism, and working harder (and smarter) than I ever have in my life, I will be able to achieve a modicum of success.

I had left the sales world due to the lack of sales, which was in large part due to the economy. I have returned because the economy isn't exactly offering a lot of other jobs right now.

50 hour work weeks don't allow a lot of time for posting. However, I love blogging and reading blogs, so this blog will not be going away. I still plan on posting, it just can't be as frequently as what it was in the past. And it's not a bad thing to be working and making money again. The last week has done wonders for my self esteem, and besides that I was getting tired of eating hot dogs and chicken livers.

Disney buys Marvel Comics

Disney has announced plans to purchase Marvel Comics for a reported 4 billion dollars.

I don't read many Marvel Comics aside from "The Dark Tower", which is an adaptation of the Stephen King novels. I don't know how this is going to affect the stories and characters in the Marvel Universe, but I can guess one thing.

Look for a huge bidding war between Disney and Time Warner for the rights to the Superman character when the copyright reverts back to the family of Jerry Siegal in 2013.

2012, Doomsday for Superman

2012 will be the year Superman meets his maker.

Superman, who is arguably the first ever superhero burst into the public consciousness in Action Comics number one back in 1938. His creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster sold the character to Detective Comics (DC) for a hundred dollars and a contract for work. In the late forties, they became unhappy with the amount of money they were making compared to the amount of money the company was making, and they tried to renegotiate their contract. DC Comics then fired them, and removed their byline.
The pair fought for years for the rights to the character, and in 1975 they were awarded 20k per year, as well as having their byline restored. This was not a court order; it was due to negative publicity.
After the pair had passed away, Jerry Siegel’s widow and daughter sued DC Comics in 1999, and the case was settled recently in the Siegel’s favor. Warner Brothers must reimburse the Siegel’s for any money they made on the character since 1999, and in 2013 full rights to the character will revert back to the Siegel’s. They could then lease the character back to Time Warner, but due to the fact that Jerry Siegel fought his whole life to get the rights to the character he created, I don’t see that happening. Superman as we know him will not make it past 2012. By that time, he will be 74 years old. Elements of the Superman story will still be owned by DC Comics, such as the Characters Lex Luthor and Jimmy Olsen, but Clark and Lois are going to meet their makers.
As much as a like the character, I’m glad the family of the creators are going to get the copyright back. Let’s face it, 20 k a year is nothing compared to the Amount of dough Superman has generated over the years. They could lease the character to another company like Marvel, but DC Comics owns Superman’s flying ability, heat vision, and kryptonite. Any story published by another company won’t be the same. So, in the year 2012 Superman will die.

Golden Age Comics

I was going to post some more stuff last week, but I found an awesome website that has taken up a good bit of my time. Most of the Golden Age Comics of the forties and fifties have fallen into the public domain, and I have been reading them online for free. I have read almost every issue of Kid Eternity published by Quality Comics, and I am now reading from the Forbidden Worlds series.

After you download a comic, you will need to download a program to read it with. I reccomend Gonvisor. Have fun. I know I have.

Revenge of the Living Monolith

In the film 2001: A Space Odyssey, one of the opening scenes show a group of cavemen shrieking and yelling at a black stone monolith that also appears at the end of the film, appearing to a man on his deathbed. When I first saw this film, at the time I never looked for any deeper meaning behind symbols in popular media, and I found the appearance of the monolith to be strange and out of place. Later I came to understand that the monoliths appear just before a great revelation to or jump in the evolution of mankind.

The movie was made in 1968. On a quick side note, a monolith showed up in a park in Seattle on New Year’s Day 2001, only to mysteriously disappear three days later.

Years before this mysterious event (1992), the Millennium Hilton Hotel was opened. It faced adjacent to the WTC, and anyone who followed synchromysticism at the time would be inclined to think it would bear witness to a revelation in the year 2001.

The year 2001 will forever be remembered for the attacks of 911. The television brought us horrible images of falling towers and people running from debris.

If we were to see a monolith in a work of fiction before 1992, it would be amazing. If we were to see one with an illustration of the towers being destroyed, it would be almost beyond comprehension. So here it is.

Marvel Graphic Novel #17, June, 1985. I assume the living monolith is the pissed off pharaoh punching the tower. As a believer in synchromysticism, my guess is that the next revelation will have something to do with ancient Egypt, as alluded to by Jake over at the Blob.

More Eerie Comic Book Covers

I was browsing comic book covers the other day, and I found this.

Marvel Two in One #59, from January, 1980. THe story was written by ralph Madchio, but it was plotted by Marv Wolfman. Wolfman was also the writer for the issue of Wonder Woman where she flew her plane through the towers, and the "Deathstroke" issue that depicted a smoking WTC. Both comics were years before 911.

I believe that Wolfman and others tapped into something that allowed them to see the future. I don't think they knew 911 was going to happen, to them it was nothing more than an idea for a comic book.

This issue of Ghosts is a bit disturbing.

Issue #81, Oct 1979. At first glance you might find it innocolous, but look directly above the construction worker's head, and you can see two buildings resembling the WTC. THe skeleton in the cement reminds me of this story.

The pulverized remains of bodies from the World Trade Center disaster site were used by city workers to fill ruts and potholes, a city contractor says in a sworn affidavit filed yesterday in Manhattan Federal Court.

Eric Beck says debris powders - known as fines - were put in a pothole-fill mixture by crews at the Fresh Kills landfill on Staten Island, where more than 1.65 million tons of World Trade Center debris were deposited after the Sept. 11 attacks.

If this story is true,it shows a real lack of human decency on the part of public officials for allowing this to happen. I could find no updates on the lawsuit, but I imagine it is ongoing.

Save Money on Kids Eyeglasses

In the summer of 1984, I was a sophomore in high school. Back in those days, summer meant playing outdoor sports during the day and watching late night movies on the television. During one such sporting event, a basketball bounced off of my face, and my glasses broke. I didn’t have a spare pair, and glasses were too expensive of a thing for our family to just go out and buy. I just stopped wearing them for the rest of the summer.
By the time school started, I was getting headaches from trying to read my school work. I took my eyeglasses and taped them back together. I looked like a total dork, but the headaches went away.
If you have kids who wear glasses, the truth is that sooner or later they are going to break them. NO kid should have to go to school with taped up glasses, or suffer from headaches for a couple of weeks because his parents can’t afford them. Thank goodness for Zennioptical.com, where parents can get a set of eyeglasses for as low as eight dollars. I will never overpay for eyeglasses again.

Academy Award winning Actor Karl Malden died during the past week, and today I heard over the radio that former NFL star Steve Mcnair was found shot to death.

I'm not very familiar with Karl Malden, but I remember Steve Mcnair. Just before the NFL playoffs during the year the Titans went to the Super Bowl, I was stricken with the flu and I was having some very vivid dreams. In one of them, I was on a bus with the Tennessee Titans, sitting next to NFL star Eddie George. Titans coach Jeff Fisher was standing at the head of the bus, and he was making a speech about how everyone on the team had worked their entire lives to get to this point, and that they shouldn't let this opportunity pass them by.

The Titans were a long shot to make the Superbowl that year, but that is where they went. It was a strange dream for me to have because I'm not a Titans fan, but I believe I had it so that I would know that the other dreams that I had while suffering a high fever were equally valid. They were personal dreams that I don't wish to share with the entire world, but I will say this, heaven is real.

If the pattern of three celebrity deaths at a time holds up, there will be another one before the week is over.

I heard the news about Steve Mcnair while I was working on another topic.I have some comic book covers in my collection that I haven't posted here for various reasons, and I wanted to include them all in one post.

If Magik has a color, I would have to say that it's green. In the above comic Stan Lee offers his take on Green Lantern. The monster with two buildings in his hands caught my eye because it reminded me of another monster.

The second pic is the spooky face that appeared in the smoke of the WTC. I haven't posted this pic before now because it is very subjective. Still, the comic has a demon destroying two towers, and the smoke face appears in the smoke of the towers. And of course there is the Green Man, who is known in some circles as Osiris.

In this comic, (Daredevil #349, Feb, 1996) We see another devils head rising above the towers. His head is surrounded by black clouds, which resemble black smoke. Scraps of paper fly about him, and it is interesting to note that the last three numbers on the bar code read 911. Ascent into mystery indeed.

Update: The day after I wrote this post, former Secretary of Defense Robert Mcnamara passed away at his home. He was 93.

The Amazing Hummingbird

Of all the species of bird, I find the Hummingbird to be the most fascinating. With the ability to flap there wings 90 times per second, they can hover in mid air, and even fly backwards.

Hummingbirds are tropical animals, but they migrate north every summer. It is believed that this started happening at the end of the last ice age. The ice melted and retreated, which left a good bit of standing water. After the ice age, the insect population exploded in the northern hemisphere, and the hummingbirds that flew north for the summer had a feast of previously unknown proportions.
Chances are you have hummingbirds in your area. To get a better chance to see these amazing creatures, just install a glass hummingbird feeder on your property. You will soon be up to your ears in hummingbirds.

Celebrities Die in Threes

This is a continuation from the last post. After the deaths of David Carradine, Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, and Michael Jackson, my wife told me that two more deaths were coming. I didn't believe it because I always thought the saying was based on our perceptions and had no basis in fact. Then two more celebrities died.

We were in the backyard and I was enjoying a glass of iced tea when I heard over the radio of a another celebrity death. I wasn't paying close attention to the radio, so I first heard the name as pitcher Willie Mays, aged 50. Willie Mays is the legendary outfielder for the San Francisco Giants, not a pitcher and currently 78 years young. I found out later that it was pitchman Billy Mays, the man who did commercials for OxiClean.

On June 27, 2009 Actress and recording star Gale Storm passed away at the age of 87. I had never heard of Gale Storm, she was a television star in the fifties. I found her name to be intriguing, both her first and last name is a synonym for stormy weather. The only other women named Storm that I had ever heard of was Sue Storm, the Invisible Woman of the Fantastic Four.

And Storm of the X-Men.

The question is, if celebrities die in threes why is this so?

Cash4Gold to buy U.S. Gold Reserves!

This is one of the funniest press releases that I have ever seen! In an attempt to stave off the financial crisis, Cash4Gold is offering to buy the U.S. gold reserves. The 240 billion from the sale will go to fix the economy and get us out of the mess that we are in.

Maybe instead of going to a paper currency, the government should have stayed with the gold standard. When there is a gold standard, there is only a set amount of money that can be in the economy; with a paper standard the amount is unlimited. Gold is a real commodity, but a dollar bill is worth whatever the Federal Reserve wants it to be worth. The current economic crisis has driven gold values to an all time high, and if you have any gold lying around, chances are you can get a pretty penny for it.

The article goes on to tell that the plan was devised by the treasury secretary Timothy Geithner after seeing one of Cash4Gold’s commercials on television. With the way things are going, I had to read the press release twice before I realized it was satire.

You can’t take gold jewelry to the grocery store and buy a pound of bologna for it, and Cash4Gold is a good place to sell your gold.

The Power of Three

I have heard it said many times, celebrities always die in threes. I don't know if this is true or it is just our perception that makes it so. When I heard of the passing of Farrah Fawcett, my mind immediately connected her with Ed McMahon and David Carradine, but when Michael Jackson died later that same day, the number became 4. My wife is predicting 2 more celebrity deaths will come shortly.

In the bible, three wise men travelled far to bring gifts to the newborn king. The three gifts were gold, incense, and myrrh. I know what gold and incense are, but I wasn't sure about myrrh so I checked out it's Wiki page. Myrrh is a tree resin that has many uses, and one of them was as an embalming ointment. At first I thought it was a strange gift for a baby, but when I thought about it, it kind of made sense. Jesus was sent to Earth to die for the sins of man.

I first noticed Farrah Fawcett during the first season of the seventies television show "Charlie's Angels".

The angels were three police women who were originally given menial tasks within the force, such as switchboard operator and meter maid. The never seen Charlie hires them to work for his detective agency, and every episode the angels would go undercover to solve a mystery and catch the bad guys. Each episode would begin with Charlie talking through an intercom to the angels, telling them their assignment for that particular episode. Symbolically, it was a disembodied male voice which gave orders for his angels to carry out.

The original Charlie's Angels were Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson, and Jaclyn Smith. Farrah Fawcett died on the same day as pop singer Micheal Jackson, and in her most remembered role she co-starred with Kate Jackson. Kate Jackson and Michael Jackson are both featured on the cover of Mad Magazine #251 from Dec 1984, along with Andrew, Reggie, and Jesse Jackson. Reggie Jackson is even wearing an Angels jersey, even though he is best remembered as a Yankee. Today, Alex Rodriguez just passed Jackson on the all time home run list.

Charlies Angels reminds me of the Moirae, the Greek fates who spun, measured, and cut the thread of life.

Clotho (English pronunciation: /ˈkloʊθoʊ/, Greek Κλωθώ [klɔːˈtʰɔː] – "spinner") spun the thread of life from her distaff onto her spindle. Her Roman equivalent was Nona, (the 'Ninth'), who was originally a goddess called upon in the ninth month of pregnancy.

Lachesis (/ˈlækɨsɪs/, Greek Λάχεσις [ˈlakʰesis] – "allotter" or drawer of lots) measured the thread of life allotted to each person with her measuring rod. Her Roman equivalent was Decima (the 'Tenth').
Atropos (/ˈætrəpɒs/, Greek Ἄτροπος [ˈatropos] – "inexorable" or "inevitable", literally "unturning",[7] sometimes called Aisa) was the cutter of the thread of life. She chose the manner and timing of each person's death. When she cut the thread with "her abhorrèd shears", someone on Earth died. Her Roman equivalent was Morta ('Death').

The Moirae were portrayed in the comic book "the Sandman" as the Kindly Ones.

Stephen King writes of three demons who cut life strings in the novel "Insomnia", and the hero of the novel names the demons after the Moirae. King also has a character named Jack Mort in his novel "The Dark Tower II; The Drawing of the Three." Jack is the sir name of Jackson, and of course Morta is the Roman equivalent of Atropos, the Moirae who cuts the String. In this novel, Jack Mort is a sociopathic serial killer. In the Third installment of the Dark Tower, we are introduced to a sadistic super intelligent train named Blaine the Mono, AKA Charlie the Choo Choo. The hero of the Dark Tower novels that the word char means death in his language.

The Fool Cuts the Strings

While I can't speak for the blogosphere, lately I just haven't been finding or seeing any syncs. That seems to have changed as of this morning, things are starting to reveal themselves to me once more.

In the 1970's and early eighties, Marvel Comics published a magazine called "crazy", which was of the same vein of Mad Magazine.

Here we see Superman, flying from a New York that is not only in flames, but is being held up by a Green Skinned god. (They might have meant for it to be the Hulk, but it resonates Osiris.) Only, this isn't just any Superman, it's the Christopher Reeve Superman (RIP). The Fool is about to cut his strings.

The clown is known as the fool in the tarot deck. It is the fool that takes a leap into the abyss, which means the unknown. It is believed by some that the fool is a soul in the afterlife that leaps from heaven to the Earth, and is reborn once again. In ancient Greek belief, people had an invisible string attached to them that reached into heaven, and when the Fates cut the string, that meant your ass.

A few years after the Superman movies, Christopher Reeve was in a horse riding accident that eventually led to his death. The accident left him paralyzed for a number of years, and he fought to walk again through stem cell research up until the day of his death.

In the seventies there was a storyline where all the kryptonite on Earth was rendered inert. The cover of Superman breaking the kryptonite chain was used in many promotional ads by DC Comics. To me, this symbolizes people breaking free from whatever their kryptonite is, be it self doubt, drug addiction, or whatever.

4. Action Comics #1

Imagine its 1938. In a time before most people owned a television, the image of a man in brightly colored clothes lifting a car over his head captured the imagination of kids everywhere. This is the first appearance of Superman. In fact, it is the first appearance of a superhero anywhere.

3. Superman Vs. Muhammed Ali

Ali was in such a class, he had to turn to fiction to find someone with a chance of beating him. You would think if a human fought a superhero he would be pounded to goo, but the story had Superman depowered. Superman fought bravely, but he was beaten to bloody pulp.

2. Heroes Against Hunger

Superman and Batman recruit a reluctant Lex Luthor to use his scientific know how to stop starvation in Africa. When Luthor sees the suffering there, he breaks into tears and asks god how he could let the children suffer. To see a villain show a purely human side was something that I hadn't seen before, and it was very emotional. This is one of the most powerful covers in the history of comics.

1. Crisis on Infinite Earths #7

Superman and a group of other heroes went to the anti-matter universe to stop a villain that wanted to destroy all of creation. Superman was beaten badly, and just as the Anti-Monitor was about to strike the killing blow, Supergirl hit him with everything she had. She did not survive, but she saved Superman's life. On this cover you can see the pain and grief on Superman's face as he carries Supergirl out of the battle zone. This is perhaps the most memorable and the most copied comic book cover ever.

Green Supplements

As I start the journey which will consist of the second part of my life, I find that physicians love to prescribe medicine. I have watched carefully as my parents grew older, so did their list of medications. They don’t notice a difference in their behaviors, but I do. Superman, who was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster 71 years ago, continues to capture the imagination of people everywhere. The following are the ten greatest Superman covers of all time, judged solely by my own opinion.

10. DC Comics Presents #51

I own this one. It wasn't a memorable story, but the cover (which had little to do with the story) was worth the 60 cents that I paid. The image of DC's smallest hero raging at a pink sky and promising vengeance is an image that has stayed with me as long as I have collected comics.

9. World's Finest #302

Any kid who has collected comics has wondered who would win a fight between Superman and Batman. Superman has godlike powers, and Batman is just a man, but Batman always seems to be able to find a way to win. With Kryptonite gloves, I imagine he would give Superman a good ass kicking.

8. Superman #317

A green Kryptonite poisoned Superman vowing to kill the reader is an image that just doesn't go away. This one was drawn by one of the greatest comic book artists of all time, Neal Adams. The cover just grabs your attention, and keeps it.

7. Superman #400

This one is a beautifully painted cover. Superman's Rocket ship flies past the twin towers, and even the Earth itself to the backdrop of an American flag. Jor-el is looking straight ahead, while Superman's mother looks sad. Truly an unforgettable cover.

6. Superman #422

Comics legend Brian Bolland gives us a view of a Superman bitten by a vampire. This cover being in black and white except for the red eyes makes it even more menacing. An awesome cover.

A Special Gift

In the world of today most kids receive countless gifts for their birthdays and for Christmas. It wasn’t always that way. In days of yore a lot of kids were lucky to get an extra slab of meat on their plates during those special occasions. My mother has a twin, and their birthday was on December 26th. When Christmas came around, she often received one gift for her birthday and Christmas, and she usually had to share it with her brother. On one special Christmas she had a present with just her name on it. She had been asking for a watch, and the box was about the right size for a watch. Christmas came, she opened the box, and sure enough it was an……… ink pen. Talk about a big disappointment.

She got over this disappointment a long time ago, but by the time this Christmas comes around, I would love to get her the watch that is in the above picture. My mother is the type of person who would do anything for anyone if she was able to, and she rarely spends money on herself. So it would be an honor for me to be able to get her a Seiko Diver watch that would have thrilled her 50 years ago.

Comic Book Synchs: Coincidence, Prophecy, Foreknowledge, or Evil Muse?

Since this blog began,I have concentrated mostly on synchs that deal primarily in comic books. I have had neumerous online conversations with people who have a theory as to how comic books can seem to have predicted 9-11, The Princess Di accident, and other world events.I don't know for sure the answer myself.

The events that were fortold by people having knowledge the event was going to happen beforehand. This would mean that comic book artists and writers were in on a conspiracy and allowed it to happen. I don't think this is very likely. If there is a conspiracy it probably would have been known be only a few people. I don't think people who work in comic books would be in the loop.

2. Coincidence

The various events foretold happened purely by chance. I don't buy this, because one time could be a coincidence, but over ten times is beyond chance.

3. Evil Muse

The writers and artists in question were inspired by a supernatural being with malevolent purposes. It's possible, but why would a muse want to foretell of a tragic event? This theory would seem to indicate that by telling a story, you are increasing the chances of it coming true. Alan Moore believes this, and I suppose it is possible.

4. Prophecy

The writers and artist in question could see in their mind future events that were yet to take place. I find this theory the most likely, due to my view of things. I believe the fourth dimension is outside of time in the way the third dimension is outside of a photograph. In the fourth dimension, all time is happening at once, and certain aspects of the fourth dimension can exist in the third, but only like the way we exist in a two dimensional photograph.

I'm not trying to change peoples thinking, I'm just typing down the different theories. I am not rigid in my own thinking, and whatever you believe you are welcome in mecury's Garden.

Baseball Review; National League West

This one is Easy. It's going to be the Dodgers all the way. When Joe Torre came in, we all pretty much knew he was going to build the Dodgers into a contender, didn't we?

Even with Manny Ramirez being out, there isn't even anyone close to them. The Padres are hot lately, but just last week they were trying to trade their ace pitcher, Jake Peavy. The team can't make a legitimate run when the owners are selling off the team.

So for the series this year, I predict the Dodgers VS Yankees. With the controversy surrounding Ramirez and A-rod, a lot of fans might tune out. It will be worth watching to see Torre return to New York.

Disney Memories

When I was 13 years old, my mother, brother, sister, and myself carpooled with my aunt and her two sons to Orlando Florida for a trip to Disneyworld. My uncle was living in Florida at the time, and he was able to get us tickets at a low cost. If you have ever ridden with your family in a car for over a thousand miles, I’m sure you know what it was like. I remember my cousins throwing punches at each other, breaking each others glasses. (lol)

It was the first time I had ever been out of my home state, and I was amazed by the beach. I hadn’t imagined looking out over water and not seeing land on the other side. My cousin and I took a walk along the beach, and we saw an old man fishing. I asked him if he had caught anything, and he showed me a shark he had on a line. It was only about three feet long, but I was amazed because I had never seen a shark before. My uncle took us all out to eat, and I remember eating shrimp for the first time. My uncle laughed at me when they saw I ate the whole shrimp, shells and all.

The next day we drove from St Augustine to Orlando for our trip to Disney World. From the parking lot, we boarded a train that was up one a rail. Mom told me it was called a monorail. At the entrance to the park was a castle that looked exactly like the one on the Disney Logo. Cinderella herself was greeting people as they came in the door. My aunt wanted me to talk with her, but I chickened out.

The ride I remember most almost thirty years after being there was Space Mountain. It was a Roller Coaster that was indoors. The cart that carried us looked like a rocket, complete with a countdown to start the ride. We whizzed past other planets, and even took a journey out of the solar system. I think me and my brother and sister rode Space Mountain twenty times that day.

Baseball Review; Naltional League Central

The Astros and The Pirates aren't going anywhere, let's just face the facts. The favorites to win this division, the Chicago Cubs are on the verge of complete implosion.

It's a three way horse race between the Reds, Brewers, and Cardinals. This is gong to be a tough call, this is the best division in baseball in my opinion.

I'm picking the Reds, because they have good, young pitchers. Which brings us to the number one question in baseball.

Should Pete Rose be in the Hall of Fame? I vote yes, but not because of the reasons most people give. He did bet on baseball and lie about it, but are the steroid abusers (who are eligible) any better.

The staunch anti-gambling policy came about when the Black Sox players alledgedly took money to throw the world series. Players back then were making a pittance compared to the owners, so I can't say I blame them too much.

So it's time to forgive Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson, and let them in.

You can forget about the Nationals and the Marlins, they are going to be watching the playoffs at home this year. The Braves have only a slightly better chance of making the post season.

That leaves us with the Phillies and the Mets. The Phillies wonit all last year, but this season I am going to choose the Mets, baring injury to Johan Santana.

He is the best pitcher in baseball, and the Mets just have too many heavy hitters.

American League West

Baseball legend Ken Griffy Jr. returned to Seattle this season, and like most of his years in Cincinnati, he has been out of the lineup with injury. He does make the team better with his veteran leadership.

The Rangers are three games up one the Angels. They are leading this division because they have some heavy hitters.

I was going to pick the Rangers to win this one, but something tells me to go with the Angels, so that is what I am going to do.

Cooking Outdoors

Summer is here, and I love it. I love the smell of fresh cut grass, watching baseball with a cold beverage in my hand, and I love cooking outside.

There is something primordial about cooking outside that I just can't put my finger on. Perhaps it’s just something that is left over from the instinct of man, when food was hunted and not bought. Although I must admit there is something fascinating about watching your food cook on an open flame, I would still not wish to travel back to pre-historic times due to the fact that they didn’t have barbecue sauce. This division has the teams that were on top last year in the cellar this year. What the heck has happened to the Cleveland Indians?

I watched them against the Reds last weekend, and it looks like they couldn't stop an infield hit if they put their body in front of it.

The Tigers and Twins are both doing well, and the Royals are much better than in years past. I'm still not counting out the White Sox.

Sorry Kansas City fans, but your team is still a couple years away. This will be a tight race between the Twins, Tigers and White Sox come September.

If I had to pick a team, it's going to have to be the Twins.

First off, I want to give a heartfelt thanks to all of my blog's readers, those who post as well as those who have never posted.

I usually cover syncs in comic books and politics, so why am I posting about baseball? I suppose I am posting about baseball because I am a fan, it's like a soap opera for men.

The American League East

Where have you gone Joe DiMaggio? The AL East seems likes it's going to be an exclusive battle between the Sox and the Yankees again. My Rex Sox nation friends will be mad at me for saying this, but I think it's the Yankee's year to take this division. They have shrugged off the A-Rod steroids story, and the later allegations that he used steroids as a kid. I don't know if he did or not, but here is a picture of him in little league.

He is the rather large fellow staring at the picture of Madonna. As for the Rays, Jays, and Orioles, good luck next year fellas. It looked for a bit like the Jays might make a run, but they are 1-9 in there last ten.

It's like they have a hole in their bats.

The President in Comic Books 4

This is the final section I am doing on the presidents in comic books. Before I move on to the modern comics, I want to take some time to post a couple of covers I overlooked earlier.

There seems to be some sort of fascination among comic book writers concerning Lincoln. It is interesting to note that the Lincoln Memorial is in a Greek Temple, and the Lincoln statue contained inside is something of a copy of the statue of Zeus.

There are a couple of imaginary tales where Superman is the president. YOu would think they would craft the story around one man having too much power, but it usually ends up a better world when Superman is comander in cheif. Since he was born on Krypton, I wonder how he dealt with the natural born citizen issue?

There have'nt been to many covers showing GWB, but I think this one suits him best. But isn't a hundred years just passing along the problem to someone else?

I don't have this issue, but I did thumb through it in the comic book store. GW was actually an alien in disguise, so that is why the Dragon is hitting him. This cover and the next one are sure to drive some mad with it's symbolism.

Does the Savage Dragon represent the galactic center of the Milky Way, or is he symbolic of an alien lizard race? I don't know.

Obama is fast becoming a comic book celebrity. I'm a bit wary of giving anyone a free pass just because the last guy was horrible.

Funny cover here. I feel like that as I try to find a way to pay my bills and keep my wife happy, all the while raising the kids. Maybe if I can get through some of my problems, it will help the world out just a little bit. Or maybe the world is out to get me. I just don't know, and I won't till I am able to wade through this mess.

A few years ago, I had a conversation with a colleague who was of an extremely high intelligence. We were having a philosophical conversation, and the topic of humans abandoning the Earth came up. I asked him how long it would take for the wilderness to take away all evidence of man. He answered that within 50 years, most of the houses would be gone. With no one to keep up roof repairs, moisture would rot the wood structures, and within a hundred years all that might be left is vegetation covered foundations.

Luckily, we are able to keep up repairs on our roofs. Folks who live in Harrisburg Pennsylvania are extremely lucky to have a company like Knepps Roofing. The President in Comic Books 3

Truth is stranger than fiction I guess.

In the 1970's DC comics published a comic entitled "Prez". Prez was about a 19 year old kid who becomes president of the United States, made possible by a change in the constitution.

It only lasted 4 issues, but it is interesting to note that one of Prez's antagonists was a descendant of George Washington, a leader of a militia group.

For the last eight years, the president of the DC universe has been Lex Luthor. Strangely, things in comic book universe seem to be a bit better than the real one. Sure, there is an alien invasion a couple of times a year, but at least it's out in the open.

I'm not sure what DC was trying to do by having a villian as president, but perhaps it was a hidden indictment on the leader we had at the time.

I was going to write a little more, but it's Saturday and my wife is screaming at me to get off the computer. I will have more later....

I’m sure it’s happened to you if you have driven for at least 3 years. You are driving down the road, and slowly the temperature gage rises. Before you get home, there is steam pouring from underneath the hood of your vehicle. You are able to make it home, but you still need to find a way to work the next day. You call three of four used part stores, and all of them tell you that the radiator is obsolete, and that they don’t have any and don’t expect to get any.

The President in Comic Books Part 2

The forties and fifties were fairly straight laced as far as presidential appearances go, in the sixties things started to get a bit strange. DC Comics had Superman reveal his secret identity to JFK, and before the comic is published JFK is assassinated. DC Pulled the comic, but LBJ asked them to print it in full.

IMO, JFK was the last great American president. May he rest in peace.

After this, comic books get really weird with Abraham Lincoln.

Abe gets in an arm wrestling match with "Scalphunter".

Suppose some future generation invents the means of which to travel through time. Would they go back and try to save president Lincoln?

If such a feat were accomplished, time itself would be out of whack, causing news robots of the future to get a bit confused.

Robby the Robot is about 1107 years slow on the news. Of course, if I was flashed by an elongated man, I would probably be out of sorts too. Anyway, if such a cataclysm happened, I suppose we could send an actor back in time to take Lincoln's place.

So, what do we do with Lincoln in the future? I think we should just throw a space helmet on him and make him an ambassador to the United Federation of Planets or something.

In part three, we will take a look at fictional comic book presidents, as well as some leftover goodies from the seventies. Stay cool.

The President in Comic Books Part 1

During the Bush Administration, the president of the United States in the DC Comics universe was Lex Luthor. Sure you had a fake alien invasion or two, and Superman got hassled quite a bit, Lex Luthor brought jobs and brilliant scientific discoveries to America! If I had to choose between the two, I would have probably voted for Luthor.

Presidents in comics is a fascinating topic to explore. In the forties, presidents were displayed as heroes, like in this Roosevelt pic.

Most stories with a president had a story about that particular president, and you rarely found any fiction.

A notable exception was Kid Eternity stories. Kid Eternity and his Grandpa were trying to escape the Nazis, but they were gunned down. Kid Eternity found himself at the gates of heaven, but he was refused entry because he had died 75 years before he was supposed to. He was returned to Earth and given the power to raise the dead, and command them. He could bring in Billy the Kid to shoot it out with bank robbers,or summon Hercules to upright an overturned car. His modern stories lack the same appeal the older ones had for me.

In this issue, Kid Eternity stops the "shoe", who is a supervillian that throws his shoes at politicians.

In the sixties, we started seeing presidents pop up in comic book storylines.

Gardening and Lawn Tips

Today at Mercury’s Garden, I am going to go off topic for a moment and talk about gardening and lawn care.  With the soaring cost of food prices, I am really looking forward to growing my own vegetables this year. In years past, I have sworn off unnatural fertilizer and bug spray, but the problem is I usually end up with a crappy looking garden with lots of bug eaten vegetables.

I also have a double lot that tends to get lots of weeds. I take a weed whacker to them, but the line of the whacker usually breaks, and I replace it only to have it break again. I don’t like the idea of weed killer and lawn fertilizer, because if kids and household pets roll around in the grass, they get the fertilizer on them.
It’s always been my belief that when you put fertilizer on your plants, no matter how much you wash them you are eating the fertilizer as well as the food. I don’t like getting sick, and I don’t like my family getting sick even more. Feed the Pig

I can’t pretend to understand why the Swine flu has been hyped as much as it has. If Mexico City has populations of 30 million and 168 people there have gotten sick with the swine flu, which means that swine flu has infected 0.000005 percent of the population! And even if you catch it, you are not likely to die. I would not be afraid to walk around Mexico City without a Michael Jackson mask, and I would even visit a barbecue pork restaurant there. It can’t be any worse than the MSG crap they put in fast food.

The hype from the nightly news was so bad that my wife, who doesn’t believe most conspiracy stories, has theorized that it was invented by a drug company in order to peddle vaccines. It is strange that it’s part bird, pig, and human influenza. It kind of reminds me of Manbearpig from South Park, only named Manbirdpig.

What follows is a satirical news report. Satirical means funny make believe, much like the danger of swine flu. Any resemblance to actual persons is coincidental.

“The threat of swine flu was downgraded today, much to the disappointment of the Council for World Governance. “We are very disappointed in the failure of Swine Flu.” Stated Council president Joe Wellington. “We were hoping for quarantines, curfews, and riots among the lower masses. Because the Swine flu wasn’t very potent, this did not happen.”

“I don’t understand what went wrong. We worked for months splicing the different strains of flu together. I guess you really don’t know what you got until you make a test run.” Ken Brewster of Biological Research and Development was quoted as saying.

Preparations for a Swine flu vaccine have been put on hold. “WE can’t justify giving a vaccine that may hurt people for a virus as impotent as Swine flu. We just don’t think we would be able to get away with it.”
Thomas Scott, owner of vaccine manufacturer Novision has refused comment. “He’s very disappointed. He was expecting to make billions for the company, and now barring a mutation that isn’t going to happen.” An anonymous company spokesperson told us.

“Still, it’s not a complete failure. It (swine flu) showed us all of our media outlets are still towing the line, and we were able to scare about 5% of the population as well as sow some seeds of mistrust among the ethnic groups of the lower classes.” Said Wellington.

Comic Book Death

Killing off comic book characters isn't a new thing. Throughout the history of comics there were many issues where you would believe a character had died, only to find out by the end of the comic that it was a fake death.

The first character I can remember staying dead for awhile was Robin. The fans actually voted to have him killed off, and yet they brought him back a few years later. There have been three Robins, Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, and Tim Drake. It was Jason Todd who took the big dirt nap for about ten years, but he was resurrected when the DC universe reality decided he should live and reasserted itself.

Comic Book Deaths are interesting stories, but they have become a cliche. You can't read a story where a character dies without wondering how they will return to life. Does this mean that superheroes are zombies? Yes, it kind of does. At least DC Comics is giving this idea a poke in the ribs with the upcoming "Blackest Night" event. In this storyline, every major character who has died in the DC universe will return as a zombie. I'm betting that it ends with a mass resurrection.

Lots of fans freaked out during the recent Batman "RIP" storyline, but the truth is Batman has died many times before. I'm not sure why Robin is accusing Superman. If Supes had anything to do with it, couldn't he just crack Robins skull like an egg?

Captain America died in 1968 during the war in Vietnam. He was resurrected and killed off again in 2007 for refusing to register his secret idenetity with the government. (Why is there always a full moon when a superhero dies?)

Mister Miracle was killed in the mid 1990's, was brought back to life and killed again last year.

Aquaman was killed off in the seventies and in 2006. He was replaced with a sword and sorcery type character, and I hear that sales of the Aquaman comic were so horrible after this they were cancelled. Aquaman will be back as a zombie in Blackest Night. I wonder if he will be able to command dead seafood? I just had an image of being attacked by a boiled lobster.

The entire Legion of Superheroes have been killed off and rebooted so many times I don't know where they stand today. Superboy survived, died as Superman, and came back.

So, the next time your favorite superhero bites the dust, hold on, chances are they will come back and die again.

Halloween Costumes

Tomorrow is May 1, and it’s not too early to start thinking about Halloween. Here is a pretty good site where you can find Halloween Costumes.

Halloween is the one time a year where you can be and dress up as anything you want to be and not worry about it. Throughout comic book history, there have been a variety of monkeys featured on covers. Some of them are intriguing, and some are just downright hilarious.

But if Titano is a bad guy, shouldn't Bizzaro Titano be a good guy? I guess he is since he is doing Bizzaro Superman a favor, but he's killing him? My head hurts.

Sorry Supes, Titano is imaginary like yourself. Now stop whining about the Kryptonite vision and be happy like Bizzaro Superman.

Web Hosting Geeks

As most of you have already figured out, I love to write. The economic crisis has given me an unprecedented opportunity to pursue my dream of writing for a living. Thus far, I haven’t made enough to make a living from it, but each day brings me a little closer to that goal. I have enjoyed writing blog posts about products, and some search engine optimization articles for online companies. I take each writing assignment as a personal challenge to write something interesting, informative, and sometimes funny.

Lately, I have been thinking about starting my own website to solicit my writing skills. The problem is that while my writing skills are okay, I have no idea how to build a website. Should I have a forum? Do I need a shopping Cart? What kind of graphics should I use, and how do I post them on the site? If only there was a team of Web Hosting Geeks that could help me find the right server for my website, all my worries would end.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that there is a team of web hosting geeks that have a ton of information on website hosting. If you browse this site, you will find the web host that is right for you.

Besides the website, they have a blog where you can ask questions. This is a pretty good post here.

Of course, I haven’t decided whether or not to create a site, but if I do I will let you all know about it.

Wonder Woman Vs. Black Lightning

Most of you will remember this post where Wonder Woman flew a plane into the WTC. In this one she is defending it from Black Lightning. This is from the August-September issue of 1976, exactly 25 years before 9-11

Who sent the black lighting and why? Wonder Woman is calling on Hera for help, Possibly to beat up her little brother Zeus.Looks like I will be picking up a copy of WW #225 when I get a chance.

I remember watching the bulletins from Ground Zero, but at the time I didn't know there was a comic published in 1981 that went by the same name. This cover shows a couple of buildings falling in the background, while the tin woman obliviously sips tea and takes a drag from a cigarette while a gun is pointed to her head. Oh, and there is an invisible man in the background looking on. Bizarre.

Salt Lake City Concrete

A long time ago, when I was just 19 years old, I took a summer job with a concrete contractor. My first job was to re do a poured basement that another company had messed up. The concrete didn’t cure right, and it developed cracks a week after it was poured. Also, some of the areas of the floor were green. The first order of business was to get the bad floor out before we could put the good floor in. We didn’t have jackhammers, so we had to use sledgehammers. As I swung a sledgehammer against the concrete in the following weeks, I bulked up considerably. It was probably some of the hardest work I had ever done in my life.

J'onn J'onzz RIP

I have a hobby of looking through thousands of comic book covers for things that seem prophetic for the age we live in. Yes, I know it's a strange hobby, but what the heck?

The most recurring character in my studies is J'onn J'onzz, the Martian Manhunter. J'onn first showed up in the 50's, as a backup feature in Detective comics. A scientist had invented a powerful telescope that allowed him to view the surface of Mars. Somehow, the telescope transported J'onn J'onzz to Earth, and the scientist died of a heart attack. The story has now been retconned, the telescope peered through both time and space, to a time when there was life on Mars.

J'onn J'onzz was killed off in the Final Crisis event at DC comics last summer, although comic book death is never final. Don't rush out to buy Final Crisis, it's horrible.

Apocalypse

I was doing some comic book cover browsing a couple of days ago, and I found a couple of interesting comic book covers. Both these covers had the WTC on them, with the word "apocalypse" printed underneath them.

This image was taken from Batman Chronicles #21. I don't have the exact date of publication, but it was either in 96 or 97. Here is the full cover.

Of course, there was no "apocalypse", but it was an apocalypse type event. Interesting that I should find both covers on the same day.

Talk to the Hand

I'm sorry about the lack of quality posts here recently. I would like to say it's because I have been busy, but the truth is I have had a lack of inspiration. That is, until I saw this picture on Yahoo.

It is actually the embers from a dying star reaching for a gas cloud. It reminded me of a story from a comic book series I had read, entitled Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Three and a half billion years ago, one race had risen above all others. Billions of years before the birth of man, this race had conquered space travel as well as other technological wonders. The chief scientist among them had built a machine that allowed him to peer through time. This scientist was named Krona. (Krona is also the Swedish unit of money.) Krona wanted to use his machine to witness the birth of the universe, but the other scientists warned that this was forbidden, and may cause a catastrophe. In his arrogance, Krona uses the machine to view the beginning of time anyway. He witnesses a giant hand holding a cluster of stars.

At this point, his machine blew up, and what was one universe became a multiverse. Thousands if nowt millions of alternate universes were created.

There are so many implications to this. What many may take for the hand of god, is a pulsar. Many ancient cultures worshipped the sun as a god, and of course a pulsar is the dying embers of a sun.

Testament

I wrote earlier today that I found Horus Lord of Light in the 50 cent box at my local comic book shop. I also found "Testament".

If you like conspiracies and comic books, this one has a little bit of everything! On the cover, that is an RFID chip the man is cutting out of his arm. Set in the not so distant future, RFID chips are implanted in all soldiers, and they are used to track their location in the case they go missing.

The story starts off with the story of Abraham and Isaac, strangely enough. It seems that the voice Abraham mistook for the lord was actually the voice of Moloch, to whom children were sacrificed in biblical times. Moloch tried to trick Abraham into killing Isaac, but the true voice of the lord stayed his hand.

Cut to the near future. A law that has just been passed requires men of draft age to be implanted with RFID chips. Alan, who is a scientist that helped design the chips is required to implant one in his own son. At the last moment he decides to implant it in the family pet instead.

Also in the book, we are treated to a lecture on the "collective consciousness" and the workings of Carl Jung. At the end we see the scheming of a modern day Moloch and a blue skinned goddess named Astarte.

RFID chips have been associated with the Mark of the Beast, of which no man may buy or sell goods without.

Sex Health Information

I remember long, long ago, before the invention of the world wide web had been installed in most homes, there were some very strange myths about sex, such as kissing can cause pregnancy. I also remember hearing a rumor that Aids was started by people having sex with monkeys. Misconceptions like this were common. Sex was a taboo topic, and people were embarrassed to talk about it.

Today, there is a vast amount of information about sex online. Information about protection from sexually transmitted diseases, to the main causes of sexual dysfunctions. The problem is, typing sexual terms into a search engine almost always leads to sites that are pornographic in nature. Healthguru.com is not one of these sites. Horus, Lord of Light

The other day I was browsing through my local comic book dealer’s 50 cent box, and I came across this little gem.

Back in 1993 writer Alan Moore wrote six issues of “1963” for Image comics. 1963 was a parody of Marvel Comics produced in the year 1963. Horus is portrayed much as Thor was during this era.

It was originally intended for the 1963 characters to time travel to 1993 and meet the gritty, more realistic characters of the modern age. For a variety of reasons, this never happened.

In this particular issue, Horus has an alternate identity of a history professor. When he opens a mystic portal to the "Barge of Ra", a female student follows him and stows away. When Horus discovers her, he is set upon by various evil Egyptian deities, and she must sail the barge through the night.

Hilarious!

My Favorite Watch

The most favorite watch I ever had was given to me by a Ford Motor Company executive. I was working in car sales at the time, and he had snuck past many other salesmen and was looking at a King Ranch edition F-150 that was sitting on the showroom floor. I presented the vehicle to him, and explained it’s many features and functions. He told me that if he were to buy a truck, he would want a 4x4 model and not a 4x2, which is what the truck we were looking at was. I explained to him that most people think they need a 4x4, when in truth they do not, because it rarely snows in our area to where a 4x2 would not be able to make it through. Also, the 4x2 had a limited slip axle, and a weighted bed should be enough to pull it through if the snow got too deep. At this point, he introduced himself as a Ford executive, told me he liked my presentation, and presented me with a watch that had the Ford logo on it’s face. I wore the watch proudly throughout the rest of my days as a salesman.

Booster Gold #18

I would like to take a moment to review the latest issue of my favorite, currently running comic book, Booster Gold. For those of you who don't know, Booster is a time traveler from the 25th century who travels the time stream and "fixes" time glitches, much in the same way Sam Beckett did in the popular televising series "Quantum Leap". Booster is aided in his mission by a small flying 25 century robot named Skeets, the Time Master Rip Hunter, and his sister Michelle Carter.

Issue # 18 finds Booster enlisting the aid of a younger version of himself to track down a mysterious time bandit who is stealing the same version of an ancient Egyptian knife in different time periods. Younger Booster goes after the bandit, who has timenapped his sister, while older Booster travels to ancient Egypt to discover the origins of the knife.

Once in ancient Egypt, Booster discovers the knife is being used in a ritual to bring the dead Pharaoh Kha Ef Reh back to life. Magic is being drained from a scarab and placed into the knife, only Booster recognizes it as the Blue Beetle Scarab, so he must stop the ritual or the Blue Beetle will never exist.

Meanwhile, younger Booster tracks down the time bandit and foils his plans, then joins older Booster in Egypt, where they put things right. Michelle was shown a vision of her death, and she is pretty shook up by it.

All in all, it was a good issue. Some minor plot lines were left dangling, but they should be solved in the next issue. If you are a comic book fan and you aren't reading this series, you are missing out.

Best use of a Gorilla in a Comic Book

Something about putting a gorilla in a comic book just seems to make it better.

"Great gorillas Batman! The Gorilla boss has broken his chains! Hey! What's our bat lines attached to?"

In todays episode, the character of Doc Strange will be played by Rod Blagojevich.

After winning big in poker, the gorilla realized he was naked and he bought some new clothes, shown in this next cover.

Even though he is good at poker, he still has no fashion sense.

He may be a good dancer, but what's that yellow liquid he's standing in? Gross!

Deathstroke the Terminator

Today we are going to take a closer look at DC Comics character, Deathstroke the Terminator most specifically the annual #3 that goes by the same name. When he first appeared in the early eighties, he was simply known as the Terminator. I assume the name was changed to avoid confusion with the movie of the same name.

Deathstroke the Terminator is actually a Vietnam veteran named Slade Wilson. He volunteered to test an experimental truth serum for the army, and the serum gave him enhanced strength and super reflexes. It also drove him a bit insane. He was originally a villain who fought the Teen Titans, then he became a hero who was awarded his own series, then he became a villain again sometime after the year 2000. He looks a bit like Uncle Sam, but with only one eye. The ancient Egyptian god Horus had only one eye, as did the later Norse god Odin.

I've posted this cover before, sometime last year when I first started this blog. The date for it is 1994. On the cover you can see a smoking WTC standing in front of a setting sun.

On the bar code, you can see the dates 1941 and 2001, with a 6 on both sides of them. Anyone familiar with bar codes knows that the sixes to the right of the center are symbolized by two thin lines. Two thin lines are also at the beginning, the center, and the end. The reason for these lines is supposedly so the scanner knows when to stop. If you take the two thin center lines and give them a value of 6, then you get 6, 1941, 6, 2001, 6. 1941 was the year Pearl Harbor was bombed, and of course our generation's Pearl Harbor occurred in 2001. Three sixes is the biblical mark of the beast.

There is no more pictures of the WTC after the cover, but it is an interesting story nonetheless.

500 years in the future, Deathstroke is on the trail of a post human race called the Genetix. The Genetix are genetically enhanced humans. The Genetix are immortal, but so is Deathstroke. He is eventually captured by the Genetix and crucified, then burned to death.

Here I think the author is trying to warn us about the danger of genetics programs. In Germany during WWII, the Nazis euthanized thousands of mentally handicapped people in the name of their pure Aryan race. Genetics is an evil science that has always led to genocide.

Deathstroke is killed, then resurrected. He then researches the files on the Genetix. In this next panel, the "terrorist wars of 08" are referenced.

Slade eventually finds surviving humans living in an underground city. He leads them out of the city to wage war on the Genetix, a war he eventually wins. The humans and genetix then pledge to work together to rebuild the world.

And that is what is inside Deathstroke the Terminator Annual #3. Very interesting indeed.

Best Uses of Baseball in a Comic Book

Spring is now within two weeks, and soon we will be having cookouts while knocking down a few brews and listening to baseball on the radio. There is no conspiracy or good synchs in this post(more of that will be coming soon), just comic books and baseball.

The Sultan of Swat, the Colossus of Clout, the great Babe Ruth himself. Legend has it he was more than a man, but less than a god. His bat is said to have been carved from a tree that grew on the side of Mount Olympus itself. Sadly, the great Bambino succumbed to cancer in 1948.

Iraq Pull Out Plan

I’m not happy with it, but at least it sets a solid date for withdraw from Iraq. By August 31 of next year the force will have dropped from 138000 to 50000, and by 2011 the remaining troops will leave.

How much of a difference would it make if we pulled them all out right now? What magical things are going to happen in the next two years that makes 2011 a better year for ending this fiasco than 2009?

I don’t like the way it was announced. The plan was announced on a Friday. Studies show that people pay less attention to the news on Friday, because they are preparing for the weekend. It was also announced in front of a military audience. There isn’t much chance of having an angry protester asking why it isn’t ending this month at a venue of this nature. Soldiers are not allowed to criticize the president, it’s a military regulation. The remaining 50,000 troops are still going to be carrying out counter insurgency operations, so why say that combat missions are going to end Aug. 31 2010? Changing the name of a combat battalion to a “counter insurgency” battalion is just word play and it is meaningless.

This is the type of media manipulation and word games I would have expected from the former president. We were supposed to have change, but I guess it was just change, but the change seems to be nickels and dimes. I am still willing to give the new president a chance, but this was a bad move in my opinion.

Wonder Woman Attacks NYC! Updated

I've displayed this cover before. I found it while I was browsing through comic book covers. The cover date is January 1982, and it is issue #287.

While the building on the cover is obviously not the twin towers, (it does look a little like building 7 though)I found it intriguing . A runaway plane is about to wreck New York. Inside the plane is the goddess Diana (Wonder Woman), and the Titans of Myth (Teen Titans) are trying to get things under control. All this and the huntress too! But wait a minute, I thought Diana was the Huntress? Oh well.

I thought there might be more to this issue than meets the eye, so I sought one out and bought it.

It starts out with Donna Troy and Starfire checking out the waterfront. They are attacked by green hooded thugs, and Donna is kidnapped. It turns out it was all a plot by Doctor Cyber to get Wonder Woman to fly her invisible plane to New York. (To those of you giggling at her name, Doctor Cyber first appeared in the sixties, long before the internet was common and "Cyber" became the term we are familiar with.)

It appears Doctor Cyber's base of operations is the Pentagon, (lol) where she is performing some sort of ritual in order to take over the "invisible" plane. Cyber baby, the purple jumpsuit has got to go, but the gold mask is bitchin!

There you have it. You have just witnessed a black magick ritual designed to take remote control of an invisible plane with a goddess inside of it, and crash it into the twin towers, depicted in a comic book twenty years before 911.

If you are wondering, the Titans were able to save the people from the falling debris, and with Wonder Woman they were able to rescue Donna.

Spring and the Age of Aquarius

The Age of Aquarius will begin in 2012, and many think this will be the end of the world. I don't fall into this line of thinking, and here is why.

Many years ago when my now college age daughter was seven, she asked me when winter would be over. I told her the first day of Spring will begin on March 22. She was very excited the night of March 21, and the next day woke up and ran outside. It was around 32 degrees, and the trees were still bare. She came inside and accused me of lying, that it wasn't spring yet, it was still yucky old winter. I told her that spring didn't happen on one day, it was a gradual process.

I think the new age will be the same way. There will be gradual changes over the next few centuries, but December of 2012 will probably be like any other December. No tidal wave of water will rush in to take us away, but we might get some rain.

Fair Autism Media

My last post caused a little bit of a stir, which in my opinion is a good thing. While I was doing some research for that post, I was discouraged to see the majority of search results were for articles saying there is no mercury-autism link. I want to do something to balance things up a bit.

Fair Autism Media will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about the link between thimerosal and autism. It contains hundreds of hours of video by scientists, parents, activists, lawyers, and politicians.

We have bought some magnets from their store. They also have the book "Evidence of Harm", as well as various videos for sale.

The site is run by parents of children with autism, and they are dedicated to their work. It's worth a look.

AP "Vaccines Don't Cause Autism, Court Says."

That's what my newspaper said yesterday. This is of course misdirection and a lie by omission.

The article reports on a court ruling that occurred in "vaccine court". For those of you who don't know, back in the 1980's the vaccine court was started thanks in part to George Walker Bush.(An interesting fact is that Bush sat on the Eli Lily board of directors at one time) You see, a vaccine manufacturer can't just be sued, the case must go through the vaccine court first. If you win you can take a tax payer funded 250k award, or decline the money and you can take the case to the regular courts. The bottom line is, to sue a manufacturer of a vaccine you must be wealthy and you must have about twenty years to spare. If you don't think that's fair, you are not alone.

The article goes on to talk about how cases of measles are on the rise and how last year a child died because it didn't receive his round of shots. It leads the reader to make a conclusion that the parents of children with autism are emotional, well meaning people who are harming the country.

The ruling found that the MMR vaccine did not cause autism in any of the children. Eh? The headline read "Vaccines Don't Cause Autism, Court Says." It should have read "The MMR Vaccine Doesn't Cause Autism, Court Says." What is the difference?

The MMR vaccine is a live vaccine. This means it contains live Measles, mumps, and Rubella strains. It never has contained the preservative thimerosal, because thimerosal is 50% Mercury, and mercury would kill the live vaccine. It's the mercury that causes autism, not the vaccine itself. It has already been proven in vaccine court.

Yes, this misleading piece of tabloid trash to which I am referring to failed to mention this fact. Doing so might have scared the herd away from taking vaccinations. In the case of Hannah Poling, it was found she had a mitochondrial disorder that was aggravated by the thimerosal, and led to autism. How many kids with autism have this mitochondrial disorder? One in 166 perhaps?

Ive heard people call the science showing the thimerosal autism link to be junk science. I challenged one such person online to find a scientific, not statistical, study that shows there is no link. He couldn't find any because none exist. It can't exist because thimerosal causes autism in certain kids.

A Serious Economic Crisis

Looking at this with no context, you might say it looks like a binary star system, right? I am not an astrologer, astronomer, or anything like that. I do read a lot of blogs, and I've seen the star Sirius mentioned on several occasions. Sirius is a binary system, and I think it's about 8 light years away. That's about the extent of my knowledge on the subject. I wouldn't even be able to pick it out of the night sky.

This is the above image in context. You can see it's just a couple of lights. Now, the question is, did my reading about Sirius cause me to see something that wasn't there, or did it awaken me to be aware when it shows up? And what does it mean, if anything?

Why Leahy's "Truth Commision" Plan is Unacceptable

I was shocked today to learn of democratic senator Pat Leahy's plan for exposure of crimes that may have been committed by the Bush administration. The plan calls for granting immunity in exchange for testimony in the areas of warrantless wiretapping and torture.

We don't need these people to admit the truth under oath, we pretty much know the truth already. Granting immunity in exchange for testimony is a cop out, plain and simple.

Under the constitution of the United States of America, we have the right to be secure in our homes and our person and such things cannot be searched without a writ of Mandamus. If someone in a position of power violates this right, and is then granted immunity, then we really don't have the right. In fact, we don't have any rights, because if a situation dictates that one right is to be taken away, they can all be taken away. No one is above the law.

In fact, torture and warrantless wiretapping is just a tip of a very large iceberg. What is lurking under the surface of the water? Were voting machines tampered with in 2000 and 2004? Was intelligence faked in the lead up to the Iraq war? And if so, to what purpose was it faked? And why did building 7 fall at free fall speed due to fire? Why were vaccine companies granted immunity in the Patriot act?

Our economy is in a free fall, our water isn't fit to drink and our food isn't fit to eat. I demand answers, and I demand people be held accountable for their actions.The first three letters to the preamble of the constitution is "WE THE PEOPLE". Take note that it is not we the republicans, we the democrats, we the corporations, or even we the politicians. It is We The People. Our representatives are in congress to represent US. Not the banks, not the special interests, US. It is their solemn duty to investigate possible crimes committed against American citizens and prosecute when evidence is evident. A "Truth Commission" will only serve to provide a few soundbites where a few low level officials admit to wrong doing and ask forgiveness. If we are to remain a country of rights and laws we must have an investigation and prosecution if clear evidence of the violation of constitutional rights emerge.

Best Uses of the Moon in a Comic Book

Dedroidify posted a video of Richard Hoagland, who talks briefly about how the Moon has a huge influence on events upon the Earth. I decided to check out it's influence on comic books. I don't choose these covers, they choose themselves.

So what if he likes climbing trees and hanging around with monkeys when there is a full moon? Leave him alone I say!

This was the last issue of Moon Knight. It looks like superheroing didn't work out so well for him.

In the early days of the Batman, the full moon appeared on almost every other cover.

Fallen Stars (Sports)

I really enjoyed the Super Bowl yesterday. As a Cincinnati Bengal fan I was required to root against Pittsburgh, but still it was an exciting game to watch.

Sadly, many of the stars from last nights game will fall from grace. It happens to regular people who are constantly told by the media, coaches, and fans that they are something more than human. After hearing this for so long, many spot stars think they are above the law. Let's take a look at a couple of past sport stars that were even more popular than the ones who performed last night. They had many product endorsements (something these companies would like to erase from memory today) and the following ads come from a comic book published in 1979.

It's kind of creepy when you look at it now isn't it? But O.J. was a heck of a football player, he was the first running back to gain 2000 yards in a 14 game season. He has recently been convicted of kidnapping and is now serving a prison term.

Pete Rose earned the nickname "Charlie Hustle" for his style of playing baseball, which was going all out on every play. He has more hits than any other player in the history of the game, yet he is denied the baseball hall of fame because he bet on baseball while he was a manager for the Cincinnati Reds.

(A note on Pete Rose, he is still loved in Cincinnati for the type of player he was, and most people have forgiven him.)

The Man Who Laughs

I never thought I would do a post mostly concerning the character of the Joker, mostly because the character has been explored backwards and forwards by bloggers of much greater talent then myself, and I didn't think I could add any new insight on the character. However, I was web surfing today and I found something really bizzare that I can't explain.

I was reading this excellent post from Dial B for Blog about the creation for the Batman, and at the end of the post I read that the inspiration for the Joker came from a 1928 silent film called "The Man Who Laughs." You can watch the film in it's entirety on YouTube. The plot of the story is King James takes revenge on a lord who offended him by having his son's face surgically altered so he would always appear smiling. I found the film to be quite disturbing and I couldn't watch the whole thing. I don't reccomend watching it if you are prone to nightmares.

I don't like it when comic book characters have their origins changed when they are transferred to film. Comic Book Joker got his smile because of falling into a vat of acid. The Joker from the Dark Knight had his face mutilated, just like the character from "the Man Who Smiles." (Which first appeared as a book published in 1869.) So, who played the title character Gwynplaine in "the Man Who Laughs?"

His name was Conrad Veidt. He died relatively young at the age of 50, and like Heath Ledger he caused a stir early in his career by playing a gay man in a film. (probably the first portrayal ever)

Veidt also appeared in Magnus Hirschfeld's pioneering gay rights film Anders als die Andern ("Different from the Others", 1919), in which he played what is likely the first gay character written for the cinema, and in Das Land ohne Frauen (1929), Germany's first talking picture

What really grabbed me was his date of birth and death. He was Born on Jan 22 1893, and he died on Apr 3 1943. Heath Ledger was born on April 4 1979, and died on Jan 22 2008.

Obama to Release U.F.O. Files?

A few days ago, I posted the top ten secrets the government should come clean on. Number three on my list was "What happened in Roswell New Mexico in 1947?"

While web surfing, I found this article, UFO files to be released under Obama Open Government Memoranda.

It seems a member of Obama's transition team was John Podesta, who has long advocated for the release of the U.F.O. documents. Here he is in 2002.

Reading into the article, nothing is being released, just made easier via the Freedom of Information Act. I'm still cynical, but we shall see.

Top Ten Secrets the Government Should Come Clean On.

Indeed, D.C. has become a "House of Secrets".

President Obama pledged a new era of government transparency yesterday.

"For a long time now there has been too much secrecy in this city," Obama said. "The old rules said that if there was a defensible argument for not disclosing something to the American people, then it should not be disclosed. That era is now over. Starting today, every agency and department should know that this administration stands on the side not of those who seek to withhold information, but those who seek to make it known."

I applaud this move, it goes a long way to ease the skepticism and cynical ism that has been a large part of my life over the last five years. However, actions speak louder than words, so here are the top nine secrets that the government should come clean on. If just half the list of things I want to know, some of which may sound ridiculous, but hey, it's my list.

10. What was the Closed session of Congress all about?

There has been speculation that it was about everything from the collapse of the economy to the arrival of Planet X. Governments shouldn't hide their business from the people, we have a right to know what they talked about.

9. What happened at Montauk?

There have been many rumours concerning the island of Montauk involving alternate realities and time travel. I have always found it fascinating reading, but I pretty much thought it was crap until manbearpig washed up on a nearby shore. So, are we currently conducting time travel/ alternate reality experiments?

8. Just how many people did the government spy on anyway? On Countdown with Keith Olberman last night, a whistle blower admitted the NSA kept files on journalist's phone calls and e-mails. How many other groups were targeted? Yes, I'm wondering about synchromystic bloggers and 911 truth.

7. Why all the Fema Camps?

(Note, I've actually seen the installation in the photo. It's at an army camp where military police train.)

The contract -- announced Jan. 24 by the engineering and construction firm KBR -- calls for preparing for "an emergency influx of immigrants, or to support the rapid development of new programs" in the event of other emergencies, such as "a natural disaster." The release offered no details about where Halliburton was to build these facilities, or when.

What new programs? And what "natural disaster"?

During the democratic primary it looked like Hillary was going to stay in the race until the bitter end. I want to know how much influence secret societies have had on our politics.

The question of the century. Did rouge government elements conspire to kill the Kennedys? Why was the confession of Howard Hunt ignored by the mainstream media?

There was a secret meeting between the CDC and big Pharma at Simpsonwood Ga., where they colluded to cover up any link. What other documents do they have, and why hasn't anyone been prosecuted?

Why is there no footage of a plane hitting the Pentagon? Why did the buildings fall at near free fall speed? Why did Bush say he saw the first plane hit on television on 9-11 when the footage wasn't released until the next day? We need all documents on this released, and we need a new investigation.

I was a little shocked but I came to find out the site was hacked. It's actually a devilishly ingenious plan. Isolate each member and make them think they are banned for some trivial offense. A false flag operation in a smaller sense.

Keep up on the Latest Sports News With Comcast

I haven’t blogged about it here, but I am a big football fan. My team, the Cincinnati Bengals didn’t make the playoffs this year, but I found the playoffs overall to be very entertaining.

In the AFC Championship last night, Willis Mcgahee collided with Steeler’s safety Ryan Clark and lay motionless on the field for several minutes. It turns out it was a concussion and he’s going to be fine.

In the NFC Championship game, the Arizona Cardinals withstood a furious Philadelphia Eagles comeback to earn their right to go to their first Super Bowl.

Comcast.net has both these stories from over the weekend and more, including the Anton Bouldwin blow up as well as various experts football picks for the big game.

The don’t have just print stories, they have video as well.

After the Super Bowl, March Madness is just around the corner. Comcast.net is a great place to get information on which Cinderella teams may go far in the tournament. It seems every year there is a college I never heard of getting into the sweet sixteen.

Of course after March Madness is baseball season. So many players jump from team to team, that I am going to need Comcast.net to help me keep up with who is playing where. Maybe this will be the year the Cincinnati Reds make the postseason. (Hey, I can hope can’t I?)

Ghost Rider Gets Saved

I'm sure most of you remember a few years back when Danish newspapers published a cartoon image of the prophet Muhammad, which caused an uproar in the Muslim world. In Islam, it is forbidden to display an image of Muhammad in any way. This way of thinking was a bit hard to understand for the Christians of the western world. Images of Jesus has appeared in various films and paintings, Some of the latter going back 1500 years. Jesus has appeared in some comic books, all of them Christian comics that retold his life and works.

Satan of course, has appeared in superhero comics since at least the 1950s. So if Satan has appeared in various superhero comics, how many has Jesus appeared in? There is only one that I know of, and it's seems to be an unlikely hero he was teamed up with.

The date for the above comic is Dec 1974. You can see Satan is trying to claim the soul of Johnny Blaze, the Ghost Rider. The Comic starts off with Ghost Rider fighting a one eyed demon named Inferno, who has hypnotized a crowd and is using them against the Ghost Rider. Towards the end of the comic, the Ghost Rider is defeated, and Satan shows up to claim his soul. Except there is one person in the crowd who steps in on Johnny's behalf.

I thought for a long time about whether to post this or not, but upon review, it's not offensive, and it's an interesting bit of comic book history. If anyone thinks I'm wrong, let me know.

Sleep Apnea

I’d like to take a moment to talk about a serious medical condition that affects millions of people every night. Sleep Apnea is a sleep disorder where the sufferer stops breathing during sleep, and awakens. It is a disorder that gets worse as a person ages.

People who suffer from Sleep Apnea will stop breathing for about ten seconds, awaken, then go back to sleep. This usually happens about five times a night, and the person who suffers from sleep apnea usually doesn’t even know that they have stopped breathing. They often suffer from sleepiness and fatigue during the day.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea is common among people who are overweight and have high blood pressure. A symptom of sleep apnea is loud snoring, although not all people who snore have sleep apnea. Obstructive Sleep apnea is when the soft palate muscles around the base of the tongue relax and obstruct the airway.

Central Sleep Apnea is a bit less common. It occurs because the central nervous system is not telling the muscles to breath. It can occur in people who have recently suffered a stroke, or heart failure.

Governor Vs Governor

In the first three minutes of this clip, we see a fight to the death between two men portrayed by actors who would later become governors.

Jesse Ventura was governor of Minnesota, and Arnold Shwarzenegger is the current governor of California. The fight takes place in the film "the Running Man", which was released in 1987 and based on a novel by Stephen King, writing as Richard Bachman, which had a very different ending.

Richards overpowers the flight crew but is shot, suffering a mortal wound. With his last strength, he overrides the plane's autopilot and sets the plane to fly right into the Games Building, home of the Network and "The Running Man". The last thing Killian sees is Richards in the cockpit giving him the finger as the plane slams into the building.

King wrote this as Bachman, and Bachman is not real. The fight scene in the film is a fiction within a fiction, computer generated images intended to trick the audience into thinking Richards (Schwarzenegger) is dead.

Schwarzenegger and Ventura were both "running men", in the film and in politics. There has been speculation that both men may someday run for president. If that happens, I'm voting for Jesse.

Cutlery

In the course of a persons life, there are certain household items that are used everyday, but they are taken for granted. Cutlery is one of those things.

When evaluating an item, there are only two things to consider, form and function. If your cutlery performs the proper function, chances are you don’t think about it too much. If the spoon carries the soup to your mouth, what does it matter?

I’ll tell you why it matters. Because it’s the little things in life that go unnoticed, things like cutlery and silverware, that make life just a little bit more enjoyable. Has your cutlery lost it’s shine? Do you have pieces of the set missing? Do you remember how your cutlery looked when it was new, and you took it out of the box and used it for the first time?

Childe Roland to the Senate Came

I don't trust politicians, but I do like political theater. I just remind myself after I watch it that it's not real, it's just a movie.

Eight days ago, I made this post about the Dark Tower poem by Robert Browning, novels by Stephen King. It's the story of a knight on a quest to find and enter the Dark Tower.

Today, the senate refused to seat Roland Burris because he was appointed by a Governor who is under investigation.

Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich is accused of trying to sell the senate seat, and the accusation came before the appointment of Burris.

Blagojevich has been tried in the media, and I must confess that my first thought was that "he lied in every word." This is the first line in the Browning poem. But is he guilty? The only thing I know for sure, he is guilty of is having unnatural looking hair.

On December 8, 2008, he called on state agencies to stop doing business with Bank of America in order to pressure them to make the loan needed to pay severance pay to factory workers whose job had just been lost.

Blagojevich threatened to halt the state’s dealings with Bank of America Corp. over a shut-down factory in Chicago. On December 8, 2008, all state agencies were ordered to stop doing business with Bank of America to pressure the company to make the loans. Blagojevich said the biggest U.S. retail bank won’t get any more state business unless it restores credit to Republic Windows and Doors, whose workers were staging a sit-in. Critics called Blagojevich's threat dangerous.

The very next day, he was arrested. And now his appointee Roland Burris is trying to find a way into the senate, just as Roland Deschain is trying to find a path to the tower.

Time 4 Sleep

Our bed is getting pretty old, it squeaks, it’s uncomfortable, and it doesn’t match the rest of the bedroom decor. Having a bed that doesn’t match the rest of the bedroom is discouraging.

For most of us, a third of our lives is going to be spent in bed. I spend about 8 hours of a 24 hour day in bed.

Time 4 Sleep has hundreds of beds for you to choose from, including but not limited to metal beds, wooden beds, and leather beds. It’s an amazing site. If you are interested in purchasing a bed, you could spend hours browsing through the different styles of beds, and not look at the same bed twice. Here are a few of my favourite selections.

The Tuscany Black is a sleek, beautiful, luxurious bed. Looking at the picture they provide, I can imagine smelling the fine aroma of leather, laying in it and drifting off to the land of Nod. It comes in double frame, king sized frame, and super king sized frame.

Rhea is a bed that sits up a bit higher than other beds, and I like that because it’s easier to get into. The Rhea also has storage drawers underneath it, which would make it easier for me to find my pajamas.

With a scroll headboard and footboard, the Verona reminds me of a royal horse drawn chariot. If you journey to the land of the sandman in this bed, he will be sure to notice you and give you pleasant dreams.

The above cover is the Adventures of Superman #596, published on September 12, 2001. One of the first things I noticed about the cover was that Superman's emblem had a black background, not the traditional yellow. In the sub-title "This is not a job for Superman", we notice the O in not is a miniature sun. Above the sun is the word "Isis". The logo itself is an upside down pyramid.

On the first panel of page two, we get this shot.

Lexcorp's twin towers are partially destroyed, with helicopters swirling about. Anyone who knows about comics knows that they are written and drawn months before the publish date, and this one went on sale a day after 911. The plot of the story is that there has been an alien invasion which has left much of the Earth damaged, and Superman hasn't lifted a finger to help with the rebuilding.

Of course J'onn J'onzz, the Martian Manhunter is going to make an appearance. It seems that every time the disaster was foreseen in D.C. Comics, he was there. In this panel he wants to know why Supes isn't helping, and in the background you can see the twin towers. Only in this shot, they are much less damaged. On another monitor to the right you can see the Great Pyramid of Cheops.

Uh-oh! There is a crisis in Antarctica. It seems the ice is melting for no good reason. To the Left of J'onn you can see the towers now appearing undamaged. And of course we must have a shot of the pyramids in this panel as well.

The Weather Wizard is melting the ice in Antarctica, and is putting it on Youtube! While most people would be shocked that a man in bright spandex is standing in the middle of the South Pole, I am more curious as to why a polar bear is 12000 miles away from his home. Everyone knows that polar bears are native to the Arctic, not the Antartic. Everyone except the editors at D.C. Comics it would seem.

Theres not much to tell for the rest of the issue. Superman easily dispatches the weather Wizard, and then saves a construction worker from falling. The construction worker then tells off president Luthor.

So in this comic book that was released on September 12, 2001, we have an alien invasion, 911, global warming, Isis, the pyramids, and weather control. Not to mention my favorite martian. Of course no comic book review would be complete without posting the back cover, as they usually synch well with the rest of the story. I wonder what it will be this time. They could have a bunch of college cheerleaders cheering on bradly tanks and it wouldn't surprise me.

Okay, I lied, It does surprise me. The game is called "Advance Wars". Go beavers! Build that dam!

Need a Generator?

This past fall, a freak windstorm knocked out the power to my town. The wind hit speeds in excess of 60 mph, and it didn’t let up all day. We were without electricity for 24 hours, but some folks were out for over a week. We have had some freaky weather here lately, and I believe the pattern is going to continue.

I can’t help but wonder what would happen if there was an ice storm that knocked out the power during sub-zero temperatures? We could go to our in-laws, but that would mean driving over 50 miles of ice covered roads. If I had diesel or Natural Gas Generators, I wouldn’t have to worry about it. And I could invite all of my relatives that live close by to stay here until power was restored. Of course if I did buy a generator, I would also need to install a Generator Transfer Switch.

If you don’t want to get caught flat-footed, and you are thinking about getting a Power Generator, do a little research on what type of generator is right for you.

Twilight Zone Marathon

New Years Eve is here again, and this year I am celebrating like I did last year and the year before. By watching the Twilight Zone marathon on the Sci-Fi Network and kicking back a few brews. The Twilight Zone is the greatest series ever to appear on television, bar none. The crude special effects contrasted the excellent writing in a way that hasn't been done since, and will never be done again. I fyou don't have the Sci-Fi Network, don't worry, here are a few of my favorite episodes.

Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder, and nothing drove the point home more so than this episode.

In a totalitarian state where books are banned, A librarian is judged to be obsolete and sentenced to be executed, only he is cunning enough to turn the tables on his accuser.

William Shatner of Star Trek fame is on a flight when he spots a goblin ripping up the wing outside his window. He tries to alert the crew, but they think he is crazy. I can identify with him.

Holiday Frames

No, I’m not talking about planted evidence and people going to jail, I’m talking about the great deals Zenni has going on right now on Holiday frames. I’ve said this before and I am saying it again, I will never buy eyeglasses at a store again. There is no reason to, because Zenni has eyeglasses at a fraction of the cost.

While I was browsing through their glasses this morning, this pair caught my eye.

I can’t drive without my glasses, but sometimes the glare from the sun causes me discomfort, especially if there is snow on the ground. From Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came, by Robert Browning 1855

The poem that inspired the seven book long story written by Steven King was itself inspired by Shakespeare's King Lear. The reference to the Dark Tower in King Lear was inspired by even older folk tales and legends.

The Dark Tower is a linchpin which holds together (and keeps separate) alternate realities. In the series of novels, the hero Roland Deschain is on a quest to find and enter the Dark Tower, which holds the answers to all questions. In the third novel entitled "the Wastelands", we find out the Dark Tower sits in a land called Thuderclap amid a field of Roses, and that the tower exists in all realities. In the reality that Roland's companion Jake comes from (New York City, 1977), the Dark Tower is a rose. In book five we find out that the nemesis who is trying to keep Roland and his companions from reaching the Dark Tower has the ability to use weaponry from neighboring realities which have manifested in our reality as books, comics, and movies. (Robots with Dr. Doom armor, light sabers, and sneeches from Harry Potter.) By the sixth book the characters realize that they are characters in a book, and two of them travel to "Keystone" (the real?) Earth and meet Stephen King.

So what does the Dark Tower look like? Difficult to say. It's image seems to change from book to book.

Today I was reading a post from the Secret Sun in which the Dubai Tower is mentioned. I followed the Wiki link, and when I saw it my thoughts instantly went to the Dark Tower, without knowing why. It just seemed like a morph of all the images I had seen of the "fictional" Dark Tower.

Reading the Wiki entry, this captured my eye.

Burj Dubai (Arabic: برج دبي‎ "Dubai Tower") is a supertall skyscraper under construction in the Business Bay district of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and is the tallest man-made structure ever built, despite being incomplete. I did another quick wiki check, and sure enough,

The Dark Tower is the seventh and final book of novelist Stephen King's Dark Tower series, published September 21, 2004 (King's birthday) by Donald M. Grant, Publisher, Inc., and illustrated by Michael Whelan. The subtitle of this novel is REPRODUCTION REVELATION REDEMPTION RESUMPTION.

The Dark Tower, which is the final novel in the series was published September 21, 2004, which is the very day construction began on the Dubai Tower.

Remember my saying that in one of the realities in the novels the Dark Tower was a rose? The Dubai Tower is modeled after the Hymenocallis, which is a type of flower.

This plant is the foundation of the design for the Burj Dubai in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.The Burj Dubai will become the world's tallest building once completed in late 2008.

Of course it would be insane for me to say a fictional tower which has been talked about in stories for at least a thousand years is currently being built in Dubai, but the synchs cannot be denied.

Transformers: Rythms of Darkness :Updated

It would seem, whatever "alternate future" the Transformers travel to, the WTC has been destroyed. The first time by meteorites, the second by Decepticons. Indeed the world was "transformed" by an act of "deception".

Update: I didn't notice before that the meteorites in the cartoon are remnants of Mars. As longtime readers of this blog know, most D.C. Comics which foretell of 911 depict J'onn J'onzz, the Martian Manhunter.

Pay Per Post

Merry Christmas everyone. In the upper right hand corner of this blog, you will see a badge for Pay Per Post, and I want to explain a little about it.

About two months ago my unemployment compensation had run dry, and I was having trouble finding work. I desperately searched for ways to make money online, and that is when I found Pay Per Post.

There are a few criteria, your blog must be at least 90 days old, and you will need to have a pay pal account. The more readers you have for your blog, the higher your list of opportunities will be. Some of you with a large readership will really be able to make a lot of money.

If you click the box and sign up with Pay Per Post, I will get a few bucks for the referral. I didn't put the box up right away because I wanted to wait a bit and see how I liked Pay Per Post. After two months, I have to say I love it, and highly I recommend it to anyone who has a good blog and is strapped for cash.

Christmas Miracle

Some of you might remember this post,where I talked our cat Precious not coming home. Tonight, a woman called and said she had her. We drove two and a half miles out of town, and sure enough, it's her. My wife and daughter cried, they had already grieved over her and believed her to be dead, even though I told them that all the signs I had seen pointed to her being alive, even though she had been missing for seven weeks.

I am very happy. And it's three days before Christmas too. :) Thanks to all who read my previous post and offered a little prayer.

Global Warming vs. New Ice Age

Whenever I hear about Snow in Las Vegas, or global causing the ice caps to melt, I think about the two brothers miser from the popular Christmas cartoon "The Year Without a Santa Claus". In this cartoon, Santa isn't feeling very well, and since most of the kids don't believe in him he pretty much says the heck with it, he's staying home. Mrs. Claus then embarks on an adventure which leads somehow to her wanting to have snow in the south, which will somehow make things better.Cold Miser who is the personification of cold weather, says that in order to make it snow in the south he needs permission from his brother, Heat miser. They are the children of "Mother Nature", who I think is Gaea in disguise.

After thirty some years the brothers are back in a new Christmas special. I watched this with my kids yesterday. There was a scene where Heat Miser blames his brother for trying to slander him by creating the myth of global warming, while Cold Miser fires back by saying Heat Miser has tried to scare everyone into thinking a new ice age was coming. LOL! I loved it! I couldn't find that clip, but here they are in a remake of the songs that made them famous.

Random Task, Show Them What You Do.

I was browsing some news stories, and I read about President Bush getting shoes thrown at him by an Iraqi reporter. This is a really funny synch with the villain "Random Task" from "Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery". Sorry, I just couldn't pass it up.

Meet Korean ex-wrestler and henchman extraordinaire Random Task. Show them what you do Random Task.

What he does is throw shoes with deadly force and accuracy.

Random Task has decapitated a bust of Ceaser, who appears to be wearing a breast plate depicting the Roman god Mercury. Mercury is the god of communication and stories, so when he shows up, it's a good idea to pay attention.

Here is the shoe throwing incident in it's entirety, although the president isn't wearing a breast plate of Mercury, he does kind of act like a Ceaser. I guess the reporter thought he was looting his country, and saw him as a "golddigger".

And of course it was Dr Evil/ Austin Powers who was standing by Golddigger performer Kanye West when he uttered the now famous words, "George Bush doesn't care about black people."
