Best uses of a Djinn in a Comic Book

Look out Batman! The Joker is back and this time he is a Genie! Nice green turban BTW.



I guess green is all the fashion for Genies these days.



Hey, they can't all be chubby and funny.



I wonder why this one is scared? I wouldn't think a sword could harm a creature of smoke.



This is what a genie should be, clean wholesome Disney fun. Although the phallic shaped windows are a bit disturbing.

I Dream of Genies or Who Let the Dogs Out?

Yesterday I found an old book copyright 1949 called "You and Atomic Energy and its Wonderful Uses." I always got a kick out of seeing how atomic energy was portrayed in the 50's, so I picked it up. I was astounded to see a genie's lantern on the cover, considering my recent posts about Djinn here and here.

Why all the genie references in a book about atomic energy? From page one.

Centuries ago there was a story about a lamp that could do marvelous things. It was called "Aladdin's Lamp." This lamp never existed, but the story has lived because of the wonder of it.
This is the story of the atomic furnace-almost an Aladdin's lamp of a furnace- that can do marvelous things. This one is real.

The dog anamorphic is illustrated throughout the book.

In the first "I dream of Jeannie" episode an astronaut's capsule named Stardust One malfunctions and lands on a beach. The astronaut finds a genie in a bottle. Forty some years after the first Jeannie episode aired, NASA named a space probe Stardust. It's mission was to collect dust from the tail of a comet, in which it was successful.

The astronaut asks Jeannie to conjure up an airplane, and she conjures a falcon.

Jeannie is played by the actress Barbara Eden. "Ba" is the part of the ancient Egyptian soul that contains individual personality.

BaBa is a Sumerian god depicted with the head of a dog. Ra is the ancient Egyptian sun god, depicted with the head of a falcon.



So in that scene, we have the dog goddess resonator bringing forth the sun god.

Jeannie finally conjures a helicopter, so the astronaut can go home.



So this is the second instance we have a "dog" controlling the power of the Djinn. The Djinn often appear as a black dog.



In the above video at 3:16 3:37 and 4:28, a subliminally placed spooky looking disembodied head appears.

It would seem Robert Plant dreams of Genie as well.

I would not be able to complete this post without mentioning G'nort. Green Lantern was derived from Aladdin's Lamp, and G'nort is a Green Lantern in the form of a dog.



Now I just want to ask, Who let the Genie out of the bottle, or should I say "WHO LET THE DOGS OUT?

It's Cold Djinn Time Again!

Earlier tonight out of boredom I was looking at some funny Star Wars dubs on You Tube. I noticed something I hadn't before, Qui-Gon Jinn's lightsaber was green.



That reminded me of this previous post about how the comic book character Green Lantern had ties to Aladdin and thus Solomon and the Djinn. I found it interesting that Qui-Gon "Jinn" also used a green light weapon. Greenlight is defined in the dictionary as

approve or give permission to proceed with (a project, funding proposal, etc., esp. a proposed film script)

I would say this comes from the age of the automobile and the green traffic light.


Why was green chosen as the color for go? I don't know, but it is a soft relaxing color, while red means danger. I was told early in my car selling career to never use a red marker because it tells people danger.

Djinn are creatures made from smokeless fire, or pure fire. Not exactally a demon, they can be both good and evil, just like the clay based human. Jinn is a particular class of genie, as is Ghul. Which brings me back to Qui-Gon Jinn and the actor who portrayed him, Liam Neeson. Liam Neeson also played Ra's Al Ghul The Wiki entry says Ra's Al Ghul is Arabic for "the Demons head", but since Djinn is an arabic word and Djinn are not quite demons, I think it would better translate as "the head of Djinn". So Liam Neeson plays two different characters that have names meaning Djinn. He is slated to star in a film portraying the life of Abraham Lincoln.

That's all I got for now folks. I don't know how or if it ties into anything going on in the world today, but it sure is interesting as heck.
